SITE VISIT TO KANYELELE SECONDARY SCHOOL

Construction began in January for the girls dormitory compound at Kanyelele Secondary School and has been progressing steadily on all four buildings—one dorm for 32 girls, the Hygiene Building and Dining Halls and Matron House—included in Phase One.

When we visited the site with Aimée and Mark Bessire, founders of Africa Schoolhouse, in February 2026, all building sites had been staked out. Foundations were being poured for the Matron House and Hygiene Building and walls of the Dormitory were already as high as the ring beam.

Project Engineer Benjamin John and Carpentry Foreman Mapanbano Mgalila Fukuji developed mockups of key details associated with the curved dormers lighting the central hallway in the dorm.

The porch of the future dormitory made the perfect setting to present our partners with copies of the Citation from the New England Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for the Girls Centre in Arusha.

The crew includes many craftspeople who worked on the Africa Schoolhouse projects at Milembe School and the Girls Centre in Arusha.
